Silicone Menstrual Cup Made In Portugal
GIOCUP is a women’s brand created for women, born in the post-pandemic chaos in the year 2023, in Portugal. We believe that change is in doing, only in this way do we add to the disbelief of the era in which we find ourselves. It’s never too late to start over, worse than making a mistake is not wanting to change. We were born to resist because we want, defend, and create sustainable, certified, inclusive products with social impact, marking the local identity.
Our Why
To fight menstrual poverty.
Menstrual poverty is a human rights and social equity issue. All people who menstruate must be able to access healthy menstrual products and have the right to manage their periods with dignity and without any type of exclusion or social risk. Furthermore, the social exclusion that menstruation can create is intrinsically associated with public health, poverty, and inequality.
Our Why
To change behaviors.
We need to choose sustainable products and produce less waste. We use more than 45 billion tampons and pads per year, accumulating more than 200 thousand tons of waste in landfills. Plastic pads and tampons take 500 to 800 years to decompose. Menstrual products are the fourth most common plastic waste found in the oceans.
Our Why
To promote dignity with sustainability.
Clean water and sanitation are essential ingredients for good health, put at risk by the effects of climate change. These challenges, in the context of inequality, are even more aggravated for those who menstruate.
Our Design
To develop a premium product, opting for the highest quality materials is imperative. While many of the menstrual cups available on the market are still made with TPE, we make a difference by producing our menstrual cups exclusively from high-quality silicone.
Material
Most menstrual cups produced worldwide use TPE rubber as their raw material. This material has a maximum durability of 5 years and, over time, is subject to loss of its original shape and damage if exposed to high temperatures. Therefore, it can only be cleaned in hot water and must not be boiled.
Silicone, in turn, is a bioinert material, which is a great advantage in combating allergies and bacteria. It is quite resistant to temperature, with a durability of at least ten years. It also has greater mechanical resistance, does not lose elasticity or its original shape, and is more difficult to tear.
Shape
Its shape is ergonomic as opposed to traditional symmetrical shapes.
Texture
It stands out because the silicone allows for a softer and more velvety texture, which imitates the skin.
Size
There are two average measurements, extracted from an exhaustive study of more than 200 copies and we added size 0, aimed at teenagers who start using them when they menstruate.
This diversity of sizes allows for habituation and progressive confidence in the product. This 8ml measure can retain more flow than a tampon.
